Estimation of monthly runoff statistical properties, such as monthly means and variances, is usually needed to design and evaluate water resource systems. If no local recorded data are available, a transfer of information through different alternative procedures can be used. In this paper, the use of linear Transfer Function (TF) models with precipitation series as inputs is proposed to estimate statistical properties of the resulting runoff series. Empirical relationships based on data from watersheds in the mountainous zone of central Chile are suggested to estimate parameters of low-order TF models and some of their properties.

Estimation of Runoff using Modified SCS Models

In recent decades, due to the importance of watershed management programs and the need for adequate information and correct estimation of rainfall and runoff, many conceptual models have been proposed. These models have parameters that must be estimated according to observational data. However, finding the optimal values for the parameters of simulation models has always faced uncertainty. One ...

Prediction of flood peak discharge and runoff volume is one of the major challenges in the management of watersheds. The present study was carried out to estimate event flood peak discharge and runoff volume using artificial neural network (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) in Kasilian watershed, Iran. For this purpose, 15 rainfall characteristics were considered for 6...

Application of NRCS-curve number method for runoff estimation in a mountainous watershed

The major problem in the assessment of relationships between rainfall and runoff occurs when a study is carried out in ungauged watersheds in the absence of hydro-climatic data. This study aims to evaluate the applicability of Natural Resources Conservation Service-Curve Number (NRCS-CN) method together with GIS in estimating runoff depth in a mountainous watershed. The study was carried out in...

Erosion plots are basically used for studying erosion processes and many related problems. However, the possibility to extend the results of experimental plots to surrounding watersheds is rarely taken into account. In the present study, an attempt was made to study on the accuracy of soil erosion plots in estimation of runoff and sediment yield from small watersheds. Towards this attempt, 12 ...

Sensitivity Analysis of Meteorological Parameters in Runoff Modelling Using SWAT (Case Study: Kasillian Watershed)

Determination of river runoff is essential in design and construction of most hydraulic structures including dams. In rivers with no measurement stations, the hydraulic models can be used for data estimation.  SWAT is one of the most widely-used numerical models. In this model, input influential meteorological data as precipitation, temperature, wind speed, solar radiation and relative humidity...
